A Growing Community of Support
DROP THE PUCK FOR MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY HOCKEY GAME 2024
This year marked the 5th anniversary of the Drop the Puck game, which has previously raised over $135,000 for mental health programs since 2018. In 2024, as a collective community, we raised over $30,000 towards children and youth mental health programs within the Vancouver-Fraser area. Witnessing the collective energy and commitment to mental health advocacy within our student community is truly inspiring.
This year truly could not be possible without the generosity and support of our sponsors. Our presenting sponsor, Global BC, made the event possible and spread our cause to audiences around BC. We’d like to also give a huge thank you to our silver sponsor Conquest Electric Inc, and our bronze sponsor Black Kettle Brewing Co for all of their support. Our community grew this year with more sponsors and supporters from all over Vancouver, BC, and Canada. We truly could not have done it without each and every supporter, thank you! Let’s bring this energy into 2025 for another amazing year!
A New Chapter in the Drop the Puck Legacy
DROP THE PUCK FOR MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY HOCKEY GAME 2023
2023'S Drop the Puck event at the Doug Mitchell Thunderbirds Sports Centre was a thrilling spectacle, culminating in a closely fought 3-4 overtime victory. But the real triumph of the evening was the amazing generosity shown towards the Canadian Mental Health Association. We raised over $35,000, a testament to the incredible spirit and compassion of our community. This significant contribution will make a huge difference in supporting mental health initiatives. The Avicenna Center for Brain Health led the charge as the title sponsor, showcasing a community united in support of mental health. The substantial amount raised highlights the event's ongoing commitment to making a meaningful impact. As we prepare for the next Drop the Puck, we carry forward the momentum from this memorable game, eager to continue supporting our community and the causes close to our hearts.
Back and better than ever!
DROP THE PUCK FOR MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY HOCKEY GAME 2022
After a 2-year hiatus due to pandemic-related restrictions, Drop the Puck made a brilliant return to Father Bauer Arena at Doug Mitchell Thunderbirds Sports Centre. In a truly nail-biting finish to a 4-3 game, fans got far more than they bargained for. Even more, however, was the total amount raised for the CMHA Vancouver-Fraser Branch. In total, this year's event raised over $50,000 in support of the Urban Resilience Opportunities for Kids (UROK) program. As before, the event featured a fantastic performance by UBC's Thunderbird Dance Team, and loads of great prizes and giveaways from Nude Beverages, Herbaland, and more! Our work is already underway to ensure our next event continues to our break records!
Adjusting to COVID-19
MILES FOR MENTAL HEALTH 2020
As the world became wrapped in the pandemic, running our annual hockey game quickly became unfeasible due to public health and safety concerns. In order to continue our reach, we created "Miles for Mental Health". The event was created to be both COVID-19-friendly and engaging for a wide audience of participants. The event saw donors pledge their friends and family to either run, bike, or swim $1/mile. In all, the event was a major success, raising over $7,000 in the span of one month for the Canadian Mental Health Association. To see the promo video, see below!
Take Two!
DROP THE PUCK FOR MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY HOCKEY GAME 2019
In its second year, Drop the Puck for Mental Health made a splash! The event grew significantly since its inaugural year, boasting big prizes and even an intermission dance performance by the UBC Thunderbird Dance Team! In all, the event garnered large support, raising over $31,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association.
Inaugural Year
DROP THE PUCK FOR MENTAL HEALTH CHARITY HOCKEY GAME 2018
In 2018, founders Adan Moallemi, Stefan Lehto-Borich, and Paul Yioldassis sought to shed light on the growing mental health epidemic prevalent across post-secondary campuses. In their efforts, they created "Drop the Puck for Mental Health". Organized as a friendly ice hockey game, the event sold over 400 tickets and raised over $10,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association's Vancouver-Fraser Branch. This initial success planted the seed for our continued outreach to the UBC community and beyond.
